Traces of Tranquility Painting

One of my new paintings, done at my recent residency at the Baltic Sea, where we had a lot of changing lights, dramatic skies and wind... and a lot of tranquility. This abstract painting shows many thin watery handmixed gouache layers, giving it a peaceful but still intense atmosphere. The white parts of the painting are painted too in thin light shades of white, sparkling white and off white/beige. It was important to me in this painting to reduce the colors and layers as much as possible to reinforce the atmosphere of waves washing the sand away, rain pouring down... a metaphor for things that change in life and the beauty of transition. All these processes leave traces.... The colors are handmixed and some added silver pigments in the white add some extra sparkle when hit by direct light, just like you can have it at the sea. You will see a lot of traces and markmaking and details to discover in this painting when you look closer. 100x100x2 cm unframed,handmixed gouache, very little acrylics and some silver pigments on heavy gallery wrapped canvas, sides partly painted and traces of painting process.
