About The Artwork
This work was inspired by someone I know that put a huge tattoo on their leg. I also had a man in my life that referred to tattoos as "tramp stamp" It is a commentary on how some people find an artwork beautiful and others find it abhorrent. My main focus whilst painting was the textures and tones of the body and the background and the tattoo is in fact incidental and difficult to read. The shape of the woman is like a vessel and there are many many layers of skin tones as well as blues and turquoise colors.

I live in Cape Town. I paint in oil on canvas and combine it with found things - I also work with clay, collages, encaustic and other mediums. I work completely from my head and own imagination with hardly any or no reference material at all. My background is in architectural interior design. I am interested in texture and the effect of light on the subject. I am influenced by my travels, recently I have ventured into candle-making and produce my own ceramic vessels for my candles.
