"Transparent Moment's" is a 9" x 12" contemporary still life painting that draws its inspiration from the allure of our collected possessions and the stories they silently narrate. It's style is inspired the many works of Matisse, his use of shape and color. Derived from a personal collection of objects, glass takes the center stage in this artistic exploration. The interplay of transparency and pattern, is a recurring theme in many of my still life paintings. Here, rich, saturated colors are masterfully employed, uniting with a profound love for shape and form, each an integral element of design. The silhouettes, though simple, possess distinctive character, lending personality to the composition. Within the canvas, layers of transparent and opaque colors intermingle, imbuing the painting with tactile texture. The color red, a hue brimming with diverse meanings, plays a significant role in this artwork. It manifests its transparency in the red glass vase, cradling the delicate pink and white flowering branches – a touch of romance woven into the scene. The painting embodies a blend of the past, the present, and the beauty of the objects that accompany us on life's journey. It's an exploration of the stories held by our treasures, inviting you to cherish the transparent moments that weave our lives together.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
