About The Artwork

Painted in black acrylic and charcoal on mounted wood, done in Moskopole - Albany, august 2010,for "MOSKPOLE 2010" Cultural World Assembly from Albany.A monochromatic approach of a figurative composition, this painting has an old photography as reference, showing a family of deported Armanians from Weigand region. In 1945, aprox.85.000 persons were forced out of their homes, deported and worked to their deaths,in mines from Donbass and Siberia. Most of the deported were Svabs from Banat and Secui from Transilvania, considered to be an element that could have affected the region's stability. In 1951, there were littleover 45.000 persons from Banat, there to repopulate the overdry climate region of Bărăgan.Among the common people, were there a few wealthy landowners, farmers with a little better situation,, enemyes of the regime, industrialists and other Hungharian ethnics,Moldavians and Armanians. It was the second large demografic change made in Romania, and the communists used the opportunity to proclamate "property - a crime".
