Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Spray Paint, Ink, Digital on Canvas.

Acrylic, acrylic based medium, archival varnish UV protection, oil, and pigmented Ultrachrome inkjet prints (collage) on canvas. The piece comes ready to hang.

Exploring the manipulation and repurposing of hotel stationary, the work simultaneously suggests dissolution and materialisation. In their accumulation and splitting of layers and nexus of forms, the work not only documents the painting process, but also functions as a record of an expressive movement in time. After building up paint and pigment prints, the artist works back through the layers with a commercial sander to expose what is underneath. The surfaces are palimpsests, their revealed layers visual metaphors for the painterly gesture.
