ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have been experimenting with watercolor "ground" lately. It is a very viscous material used to cover mistakes and be painted over. However, I have been using it as a medium to create texture in my watercolor art. Here, it is used as snow in the winter scene. Usually, watercolor artists will paint the negative spaces and leave the white paper exposed to create snow scenes. But I went one step further and decided I want to create depth so I used the watercolor ground. It is a pearlescent white so it shimmers when held up to the light. The second half of the diptych are the same trees but in spring time. Watercolor ground was not used for this scene. I used India ink to create the trees in both paintings. It is fun to experiment and I am always looking for ways to take my art to the next level. I think I achieved that here. These paintings will be sold together. They are neither matted nor framed. I recommend you take them to a professional framer and they should know how to frame them together. This diptych painting would make a nice addition to your home or office. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity as required by Saatchi.

Nancy Riedell, an internationally recognized, award winning artist originally from California and now living in Nevada, graduated from San Francisco State University where she studied Fine Arts. Classes included figure drawing, color values, acrylics, oils, and art history. Nancy’s love of art goes back to childhood as her mother encouraged her to develop her art skills by giving her art materials and art books so that she could develop her technique. Nancy’s current medium is watercolor. The bold use of colors and interesting landscapes has played a strong role in Nancy’s unique paintings. She feels that although she has been working with art since childhood, it is only within the last few years that she has felt the calling to go back into her art. Her work reflects her passion well by using strong, saturated color and theme. Nancy likes to take advantage of every opportunity and is known to photograph subjects for future paintings. She has captured beautiful sunrises in Monterey County, unique beach scenes in Santa Cruz County and unusual rock formations in New Mexico. Nancy’s art has been displayed in galleries in both the United States, England, and most recently, France. Nancy has been in four publications and has received seven awards to date. Nancy is a current member of the California Watercolor Assn, the National Watercolor Assn, and the Sierra Watercolor Society.
