About The Artwork

It’s Time to Dance // Es ist Zeit zu tanzen // Aeg tantsida I heard a phrase in a movie: “Every person has a right to dance.” Each and every one of us is an individual, everyone carries another “me” within themselves, maybe even a third one, a forth one, and a fifth one. Everyone has a right to release the one that requires to be set free, that wants and is able to say what they have inside. Therefore – it’s time to dance. We’re often preoccupied by different thoughts ¬– either heavier or lighter. This is a battle of a human with his another “me”. This unexpected rush is not easy to explain to yourself, but oftentimes we haven’t even started to wish for something before we already forbid it for ourselves. Sometimes some weird urges occur, and we can’t even say where do they come from; but even this is one of our “me’s” that has awakened and is thinking its own thoughts. Where do our thoughts come from? I think that being able to follow and understand what lies beneath them and to realize your potential in the present is an art. The series of paintings “It’s Time to Dance” is a story about a battle between two beginnings, the masculine and the feminine. These are not simply women’s figures, they capture an attempt to teach those beginnings to interact with each other, to live in peace with themselves. I’m not offering a treatment, I’m offering a solution. To live here and now, to live in the moment. And the very moment you stumble upon a question: “What should I do?”, you’ll have an answer: “It’s time to dance!”. Alisa Jakobi, Tallinn, 2014 Author was inspired by Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung.

Drawing inspiration from the Minimalist Expressionism, Alisa Jakobi renews the idea of landscape by injecting living elements of fauvism into traditional lanscape painting. Her exploration of the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind is not restricted to a mere descriptive approach, but it provides the viewer of a deep and incessant process of connection between the inner reality and the outside world. She studied in the Estonian Academy of Arts, completing a BA in Graphic Design in 2005. Later she left Estonia for three years to get new inspiration and experience in New York. In 2010 she finished her MA in Art studies in the Tallinn University. Alisa studied in the School of Visual Arts in NYC for a year, worked for Rockaway Graphics as a graphic designer. Painting has been her parallel activity during the past 16 years. Alisa is working in a minimalist expressionist style, with elements of fauvism. Her recurring topics are the reconciliation of humans with nature and about the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind. She also developed a concept called Time to Dance, where she is talking about the depth of the human mind and the changing roles in life of men and women. Her works are in private collections in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Israel, USA, UK, Macedonia, Russia, Australia.
