Agneta Stoken is a contemporary artist and painter. Born and raised in Malmo, Sweden, she has lived in Highland Park, Illinois for over twenty years, receiving her BFA from DePaul University in Chicago. Stoken’s paintings have been termed abstract, abundantly colorful and tactile. When watched intensely, colors and forms seem to emerge and recede, lending each work its own organic animation. Stoken builds each painting layer by layer, using palette knives, squeegees and a variety of scrapers as well as a number of brushes that vary with each work. Each painting radiates its own unique energy and combination of emotions, while at the same time projecting a special kind of serenity. Stoken’s love of and for painting emerges from each work.
