About The Artwork

From the 'Owning Her Desire' series. These works depict women who own it. Defying convention they pop off the wall and stare out at us in a way that insists they be seen; not to simply look at them but to recognize their autonomy and power.  This is a portrait of a woman who is fond of saying, 'I am unafraid of my hunger, whether it is for food or sex or power.' For this piece the figure is painted on a 1 inch birch panel cut out to the shape of the silhouette. The figure is then mounted to a tufted headboard. When hung on the wall the woman appears to be laying on a bed, comfortable in her own skin, gazing out at the viewer.
