This is a collection presents abstract paintings that defy description, suppressing visible reality or any representation to external forms. These pieces must be experienced, compelling the spectator to become lost in the layers of each painting. The aim isn’t to tell a story or impose a meaning to any of the pieces; the aim is for the spectators to form their own ideas and narratives. Pigments, acrylics, and resin used for each work expand and separate; shapes emerge, patterns are created and colours gradually change with different lighting and the distance at which the work is viewed. The colour palette is eclectic; verdant greens and bold blues contrasted next to soft nudes and metallic gold realised in liquid and powder forms. The detail at close-up is completely different from the entire work when viewed from a few steps away, with mini worlds of colour, texture and depth living within the resin. The resin, key to the painting process, gives each piece a glass like finish and holds each colour precisely. By using layers upon layers of paint and pigment fixed between the resin, there is a repeated cycle of losing the layer underneath. Each new layer becoming a barrier that ends what has been placed on the canvas previously to create depth and newness. “I hope that those looking at my work are overcome with a feeling that cannot be replicated by any other means. My pieces are not titled for this reason, I invite the viewer to name each one”. – Sheena Tyrer Sheena Tyrer studied Fine Art at Leeds Arts University with a focus on the role of Art Therapy, where she was taken by the idea that “the creative process has the last word and cannot be translated, a picture speaks for itself through the way it is made; image and meaning are identical”, Susan Hogan, The History of Art Therapy.
