About The Artwork
In my ongoing series Altered I explore the experience of adjusting, adapting and remaking. I use darning to bring different surfaces together, or to fill a hole or gap. The fabric is made whole again, and a unified surface is created. The pieces are dependent upon each other. If taken apart a hole remains, and the parts are the parts that fit together to make the piece whole again. Untitled (Black with Red) is one in a series of darning in striped fabric. A hole created in the fabric is filled through darning, creating one surface and a unified plane. The darning creates a tension with in the fabric, causing the stripes to bend and stretch.
