Painting, Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 67 W x 54 H x 1.5 D in
Ships in a Crate
This piece was painted in 2016 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I worked on this piece on the floor, with the canvas folded at different times during the process of creation. Because the canvas was unprimed, and also laid on the floor, the finished piece retained a gritty quality that I am quite fond of. The piece was originally part of a series called "Head Worship", which was the name under which an entire body of work existed, drawings, works on paper, paintings, video, and music.

Denton Peter McCabe is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and composer. Largely self-taught, McCabe's earliest experiences as an artist were making photograms and creating graphic scores for musical performance. His earliest influences were Cy Twombly and Jean Michel-Basquiat, both artists his father familiarized him with during visits to museums and galleries around Chicago, Phoenix, and Denver. After having been involved with an art collective and realizing that the group aesthetic did not fulfill his needs as an artist, McCabe began creating collages and drawings. McCabe's first canvas was completed in 2015, at the age of 31. In just three years of devotion to art, he has explored painting, collage, photography, ink drawings, video, and new media. He continues to create in earnest out of his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. McCabe’s cross-disciplinary body of work is focused on exploring the intersection of the primal and intellectual; digital media and traditional media; urban and pop mythology; and the juxtaposition of extremes of abstraction and signification. McCabe’s eclectic musical compositions have involved elements of video art, signal processing, and stage costumes; while his poetry and art are heavily influenced by fetish sexuality, dream material, and critical theory. His past work experience has included roles as a session and touring guitarist in death metal and blues-rock groups, a poet, a score composer for art installation and short films, a collage artist, club DJ, and sound-installation artist. His compositions have been performed by Musical Amoeba, The Parhelion Trio and Robin Meiksins. McCabe’s artwork and writing have been published by The Superstition Review, Clandestine Ritual Recordings, and The New Mexico Museum of Art.
