In this series of paintings my main concerns are aspects of imperfection and spirituality in relation to urban decay and the aerial landscape. I am trying to express a non-hierarchical spirituality, linked to a need for human affiliation and material humility. The Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi has been a great influence upon my work and shares many of the ethical qualities that I try to express. Wabi-sabi is the beauty of things rustic, impermanent and incomplete. The concept derives from the Japanese tea ceremony - whilst in the tea hut everyone is equal regardless of social or intellectual status.

“Questions of time are explored whether experienced as duration, through memory, in travel or in action. The evidence of time is visible in the process driven paintings that Tim Bailey presents. Bailey manages the interaction of materials, intervening with tools and techniques to produce abstract works that hover ambitiously between image, narrative and object” -Dr Mark Leahy
