Up to the Minute Painting

This is an abstract painting in spray-ink and acrylic on textured polypropylene (a.k.a. Yupo). It will be framed in a deep shadowbox as pictured in the supplemental image by Simply Framed, my framing partner whom I have worked with to find the best framing solution for this type of painting with thickly applied acrylic. I use a technique of layering different media and compositional styles to form the final image. The base layer is spray-ink which is sprayed with water before it dries, pooling the ink into frosted ice like patterns in the background. I poured a mixture of acrylic pouring medium and low viscosity (high flow) acrylic paint on top of the ink while it was still a little wet, allowing the acrylic medium to pull some of the pigment into itself resulting in subtle gradients of washed out color. Then I dripped medium viscosity (fluid) acrylic into the pouring medium to form the high contrast black and white shapes. Please note that this painting has not yet been framed, and it will take an additional one to two weeks to have it framed. The unique nature of this combination of media and surface mean that it really is best to go with a framer who is experienced in working with my artwork. If you have a strong preference for a different color frame or strongly desire to have this piece unframed we can probably work something out.
