Medusa is the definition of Italian fashion house Versace and its very essence. Mixtures of fabrics, colors, and muses... Even when she doesn’t show up, her spirit is still there. According to the founder, Medusa incarnates fatal passion. Both Medusa and Gianni Versace are UNDEAD - one is a Greek myth, the other a fashion legend. I have long admired Gianni's ornate design and ostentatious style in the 80s. My close encounter with the brand was surreal - when I was 35yo, I applied for the position, regional merchandising manager , in the Versace Group and was shortlisted. Unfortunately, Gianni was murdered shortly at his Miami home, after my interview. The position I applied for was shelved as the Versace fashion empire was in a state of chaos without the head designer. Several years later, I was toying with the idea of marrying the property development company I was working with and the Versace brand to develop a one of a kind fashion hotel. The budgeting of the proposed hotel inventory was tedious and I gave up working on it - this idea died in me. In 2000, I read in the newspaper one morning - Australia's Palazzo Versace Queensland , the world's first fashion-branded hotel, came to live. I was stunned. The little RED pom pom in this piece of work represents my burning passion for Arts, and how life can, sometimes, have its magical moments like Rudolph the red nose reindeer. Wax is dripped over the signature on the painting as a sign of respect to the deceased. The Versace brand will always have a special place in my heart.
