This is painting the one that I most enjoyed to paint even though the topic is about life’s transience. It’s a Vanitas and represents a girl proud of her beauty and youth. She appears self-confident but in reality nothing in life is sure and anyway everything is transient. So I created a painting, I think, quite fashionable, like a glossy cover from a fashion magazine. In this painting everything aims to give a beauty atmosphere but everything is false, nothing is like could seem… The girl is adorned from strange stuff, her earrings are fruit of chinese lantern, from her hair hang some nuts, a clock’s hand, and a nutshell. Her hairstyle is enriched by old silverware, by a couple of dandelion and a branch of lunarias. From her dress sprout some spike inflorescence. So, chinese lantern have a beautiful shape and color but I represented them just when they are already dried, a fruit without life (and lunarias too), like the nut that is broken and incomplete. Clock’s hand reminds us time’s passing exactly like dandelions that are vanishing by flying away. Nuts are really poor items, quite inappropriate to adorn a person as well as silverware that are precious but out of place. So even beautiful or useful materials can became ridiculous when are used in an inappropriate way, the same in life… I hope this painting can make you think to all those things that are really important for us as human beings but at the same time remembering life’s temporariness, so that you may tend to savor it more.

Transformation, light and the mixing of old techniques with new materials play a leading role in my recent production. The main link between my works is a quest for harmony, an attempt to describe the inner – and sometimes hidden – elegance of trivial matters. Ethereal female figures inspired by ancient Myths, flowers, fruits, peacocks and other pieces of reality are depicted in my bright figurative style that recalls the great tradition of European painting, especially the analytic approach in describing reality that was typical of both Van Eyck and the Pre-Raphaelites. My strokes are normally clean and the images neat, however I sometimes focus on a specific part of a painting, especially when an unexpected element - such as a Plexiglas layer - is inserted into the composition. In this way, the incredible potentiality of oil painting flourishes through the clear lines of a feature, in opposition to the blurriness of another one. My quest towards the soul of things pushes me often toward portraiture, this wonderful game of mirrors where the individuality of the artist merges into the inner self of the model.
