About The Artwork

Several years ago, starting from a small photograph of the flowery desert, and as a study, I begin to experiment with a painting that pretends nothing more than what it shows. Throughout this process, and through the successive expansions of format, I realize that the referent, which was the flower, becomes an excuse, a stain. And this stain that functions as a unit of color and form, when combined and reiterated, reveals to me the possibility of experimenting with rhythm and composition. My work thus becomes an abstraction of the "flowery landscape" and moves away from the referent. The referent is lost, its narrative importance is minimized, and the stain, matter, relationships of colors and forms, composition and rhythm take on a leading role. The way of working space, in which the perspective and the horizon are subjugated to a protagonism of the surface, of color, also refer to this victory of the sensuality of painting. Guided by the intuition and the experience of painting, I immerse myself in a playful game of color, composition and rhythm to give rise to these pictures that have no story to tell, only show off their own exuberance and beauty. In 2016 I began to experiment using acrylic as if it was watercolor, with lots of water and using paper, canvas and prepared woods, lying flat con the table or on the floor. This work is part of the last series I made. With these series I am closing (at least for now) this work around flowers and gardens that extended for ten years.

I was born in Santiago de Chile on may 12th, 1978. I live in Cachagua, a small and beautiful seaside town two hours north from Santiago. * It is as if all distant and distinct images want to reunite in a same absolute, but since this absolute reality does not exist, they end up crossing in their parallel realities, always remaining alone.
