ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Part of a series of paintings in various mediums celebrating the Arrival Of Spring in the Deben Valley near Woodbridge Suffolk. Inspired by the vibrant yellow gorse flowers at their best in bloom in April and May that sprinkle the river bank beside the river Deben. There is the cycle of life,a dead gorse branch twisted amongst the new growth,a sailboat has left the picture its wake marked through the river its foam laps against the bank.

I am deeply attracted to my birthplace, like so many East Anglian artists.Born in Suffolk,I am a plein-air artist who paints in oils on location around old martlesham,Woodbridge,Waldringfield Hemley in the Deben Vale. With an impressionistic touch I aim to capture that special kind of east Anglian light and atmosphere into my pictures.Drawn to the river Deben with the luminous beauty of the cloud shadows on the marshes,the very flatness that makes one so aware of the all enveloping majestic skies. These lowland river scenes made me a painter.To see the ordinary everyday landscape transformed into something lyrical and dramatic .
