Born Santa Monica 1961. Carlos lived in Caracas, Venezuela until the age of eleven when his family moved to London, his mother came along too, reluctantly. While in London he studied graphic design, illustration and fine arts, mastering in European Arts in 1994. In 2002 he moved to France. David still lives and works in Paris, or wherever he may be. His works are included in the collections of: Museum of the Americas, Washington D.C.; Museum of Contemporary Art, Caracas; Organization of American States, Washington D.C.; Biblioteca Ayacucho, Caracas; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caracas; Fundacion Miguel Otero Silva, Caracas; Casa de Las Americas, Habana. Museum of Broken Relationships, Zagreb as well as private collections in Europe and the Americas . .. . Colour Paintings, Black Humour . .The life of the painter Carlos David oscillates between London and Caracas. When he was very young he left for England, and there he encountered the world of art. Never again did he separate from London nor from art, and no one who has lived there or simply explored the city as a resident, could not help but agree with him: London is an exceptional place to paint, to defy the imagination and, likewise to confront what is created in a an environment full of variety. That, (I believe) is what has subdued Carlos David, what ties him to the ghostly mirrors of the Thames, because it is ghosts that live in the river and the city. As a painter, Carlos David has a personal style, and explores with persistence the possibilities of an art that in itself does not delight in the concessions, that incites the spectator and invites them to the world of the absurd, with a sense of humor that overshadows black humor itself. Perhaps the young painter thinks that art is not meant to please, but to incite; art as rebellion, and as a striptease of the human mind. In the cabaret, the dancer slowly strips to the beat of the music; in his canvases it is reason itself that strips his monsters. Lets review some of his pictures; even though they have colors, they are all black paint works. In one of them, the old shirt hangs from nowhere. It is the shirt of a hung man. In another, three penitents bite a bar (presumably made of iron), to verify that they do not have any temptation of regret. In a third, a grotesque figure repeats itself like a punishment. In summary, the works of Carlos David, are marked by a common denominator: the esthetics of the art lies in its' nakedness.
