ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work depicts a vibrant urban scene in Vienna, Austria, where a bright yellow tram takes center stage, immediately grabbing the viewer's attention. The juxtaposition of vibrant colours and harsh shadows creates a striking contrast that accentuates the liveliness of the scene. The sun's rays passing through the surrounding trees and buildings cast stark shadows on the ground, highlighting the warmth and bustle of the day. The tram, with its curved lines and bright colour, seems almost nostalgic, evoking the history and tradition of this mode of transport. The passengers, dressed in various colours, add to the visual diversity of the composition. Their positioning suggests movement and activity, illustrating a scene of urban daily life where each individual has a role to play. In the background, the architecture of the buildings and the greenery of the trees provide additional depth, framing the scene and giving it a realistic dimension. The choice of shades of blue and green in the shaded areas balances the warmth of the yellow of the tram and the sun. The artist demonstrates an impressive mastery of light and shadow, creating an atmosphere that is both energetic and harmonious. The paint touches seem almost impulsive in places, adding a sense of spontaneity and movement to the work. This painting is not simply a representation of a mundane moment; It is a celebration of urban life, the symbiosis between man and the city, and the timeless charm of trams. A work of art that transcends time and invites the viewer to immerse themselves in this vital and charming scene.

Born in Courrières in the North of France, I share my time between the North of France and Paris which inspires me many urban scenes including café terraces. I have always used oil paint because slow drying suits my technique better. I work in series by inspiring my surrounding, places I go to, objects I own and stage. In the series "Réflexions sur le temps qui passe", I treat the cars and Vespa in the manner of the "vanities" of the past by perforating the bodies, rusting them, thus translating the time that passes and which reduces to few things once prestigious vehicles. The parallel is obvious with our own existence. In the still lifes séries, I stage objects with a preference for metal and glass and using a palette of coloured grey and nuanced white so as to have a contemporary touch. In the series "Mes petites Nanas", I interpret scenes, situations, by putting in scene my daughter who is used to me as model (The comedy of the feelings, or the works on the small girls). Finally, the urban landscapes are inspired, as I said earlier, by my numerous stays in Paris where I live part of the year.
