ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Jazz is an original classical art form created in the United States that was born out of the Black community and was shared with the entire world. Jazz was born out of struggle and evolved to become an art form that ensures everyone’s voice will be heard. One could even say that Jazz is a Real Democracy. Marsalis said it best "As long as there is democracy, there will be people wanting to play jazz because nothing else will ever so perfectly capture the democratic process in sound". This piece was chosen for the exhibit "Real Democracy" curated by Walk Bye with Jersey City Public Library April - June 2022 - Miller Library Branch, located at 489 Bergen Ave, Jersey City, NJ
