WW1 Statue, Burlington Painting

I participated in a contest months ago called "Paint a Statue". It was a difficult task just to find an interesting statue in my area. Sure, I could go to Philadelphia to find one that was interesting... but it didn't feel like that was in the spirit of the contest. While driving home from a coffeeshop in the next town over I almost got into a car accident because I saw this statue. I'm a big fan of history, particularly involving the Great War... and here was a statue dedicated to it only 10 mins from my house. I was dumbfounded. I had to paint it. The background of the actual scene was not painted, instead a more atmospheric color and the American flag were added in order to suggest what this soldier must have been through.
