I made this painting referencing two historical works, one from Henri Matisse. The Green Romanian Blouse 1939 and Van Gogh and Girl in White. Wait in hope piece explores the role of women in society, contemplating survival and constantly hoping for the best. The blank eyes are staring onward gives mystical feelings of being in a state of pleasantly lost in their thoughts of holding on to hope. The women hair have grown very long indicating, how long they have been waiting. This work celebrates woman of hope and women who continues to be brave even in a hopeless situation. This work is created from my ongoing movement series. The series is exploring the struggles and complexity of navigating through everyday life.
