Inspiration The inspiration for this collage painting came from a response from the 2020 global health crisis. I decided to use newspaper cut-outs of images and writing to represent the society I am living in. Newspapers often bombared me with headlines and images representing the good and the bad of society. In some ways I think it is a mirror image of human activity and it's easy for me to get overloaded within a sea of information. I decided to overlay this with household paints and acrylic pouring. This was a way for me to distort the images and writing underneath, almost erasing that memory or state of mind. This industrial cocktail takes on a presence and invites the eye to pear into a space or memory that once was or a belief system. Information about this artwork Created: 27/5/2020 Medium: Collage of newspaper cutouts, acrylic pour, white gloss paint, pva glue on recycled canvas. I am a multimedia artist based in Somerset UK creating ceramic sculpture and painting. Why do I create art? Through art, I am able to step back and breathe in the beauty of exploration and self-discovery. Art provides me the freedom to explore my human potential and my desire to keep learning about myself and the world around me. What inspires me? The ancient monument Stonehenge, located not too far away from my studio, serves as a constant source of inspiration. The towering stones beckon me to question the mysteries of, belief, spirituality, time, space, the nature of reality, society and the human experience. What is my Art? I channel these ideas into my art. The results are unique and quirky, colourful, vibrant with a hint of depth, engineered with attention to detail, a study of the effects of form, colour and light. It is Abstract and Surreal, reflecting the world we inhabit and partly escaping it. When it comes to materials I don’t like to limit myself. For my sculptures I use a verity of clays, vibrant colours and glossy glazes. My paintings uncover an amalgamation newspaper, colourful oozing acrylic paints, reflective varnished surfaces and unconventional household paints. The sky is the limit! My Mission? My mission is to create art that can enhance, add value and uniqueness to any space or home. I would like it to transport you to a place of curiosity and imagination.
