I am a Canadian artist who grew up in Europe, a land of varied geography much liked my beloved Canada. Our past makes us who we are and guides us in crafting our future. I have always been intrigued by the concept of how everlasting memories and emotions continue to live in our present and influence our future. I often recall my memories and experiences of exploring European cities...the difference in cultures, smell of local cuisine, glorious architecture and the majesty and colors of the European landscape. All of this is kept very alive for me in my memories—it is a part of who I am as an artist. I have decided to undertake several projects (starting in 2018) to create series of works that leverage and explore my memories of growing up exploring Europe. My intent for these projects was for each work to convey an impression of a specific memory...to be a “pictorial” reference of a memory. I wanted each piece to bring my memory to life for me and to abstractly convey my feelings and emotions about a place to the viewer. So, the final works serve to represent two things: one, a memory from my past and two, a solidified, current-day, version of that memory…” Recollections”. Each series focus on specific subject matter. I have chosen to adopt project-specific technical approaches working with predetermined constraints to govern the creation of all paintings within each project. My goal was to create strong, successful works that stand on their own and are unique amongst the others in the same series and are an integral part of the whole.
