About The Artwork

Acrylic ,Oilpastel,Carving About my signature technic: paint+carving When I went to the Luxembourg Park in France a few years ago, it was very interesting and impressive to see a forest made of square trees like a loaf of bread. As I kept looking, I saw each leaf swaying in the wind and heard a sound. I liked that feeling so much that I remembered it for a long time, and I thought I wanted to convey that feeling when I was drawing this tree picture. So, after drawing a picture, I used a sculpting knife to express it. It looks like a flat picture from a distance, but I think it's attractive to see individual leaves in three dimensions at different angles or closer. About Tree Series Artwork. My current subject is interpersonal relationships. Especially now, with Covid19, people are more isolated and possibly anti-social. This may also cause serious depression and loneliness; therefore, I wanted to talk about togetherness (우리 in Korean) through my artwork. The My Tree series began with the experience of moving from the United States to Japan in 2016. After coming to Japan, my husband and I had a hard time adjusting to a new culture and language. Then one day, I saw this tree. It was a tree where two tree trunks grew together a single tree. I thought that the appearance of a single tree with two dividing roots, weaving stems, and blooming green leaves together is similar to the way my husband and I work together to overcome adversity. I also think it's like other relationships: couples, partners, and parents and children. Later I learned that these trees were called *Yeon-ri-ji(連理木) in Korean. I translated the tree into a drawing to capture our image, and I put my own style of painting and sculpture on the drawing to create the current "Tree Series". I hope that my supportive message will be delivered to everyone through my paintings. *Yeon-ri Ji (連理木) "Yeon-ri-ji(連理木)" refers to a tree that has two roots, but the branches hold hands together and the body becomes one. Often, it symbolizes the harmony of coexistence, and it is said to be like the love of a couple because the two bodies become one body, and this is sometimes called the “love tree”. Yeon-ri Ji helps each other's strengths while having more power than when they were alone. It is to live with one's own personality and temperament while growing up as one body. Even though it seems to grow separately, the Yeon-ri-ji, which grows as one body, grows more abundantly than the surrounding trees.
