'When the Storm comes' is a watercolour painting from 'Abstract Landscape' series created by the artist during second lockdown. As a response to Pandemic and time of isolation Joanna Pilarczyk paints a series of imaginary landscapes representing her actual feelings and emotions like anxiety, fear, love, nostalgia. She translate them into atmospheric scenes by choosing the right colour palette and composition, from very expressive and energetic to those who are quiet and reflect the calmness and relaxation. Pilarczyk founds her inspiration in wild places like Iceland, Sahara or beautiful landscape of England where she would love to go after pandemic is over.
The artist experiments with the subject and uses mixed media techniques by combining watercolour paint and the inks for the thin and first layers of the painting, then she adds more texture with powder pigments and gouache.
