About The Artwork
The painting, in black and white (with a touch of greys) is part of a series using layers and line to investigate relationships and connection. A feature of my work is the depth created by overlaying thick paint with transparent shapes and vice versa. The sense of a journey through the image helps me to show connection and freedom are often a contradictory part of relationships. ‘When words fail me’, with the addition of a pattern element, shows the connection between a happy home and a happy life. This painting will be available at The Other Art Fair in Sydney October 24 - 27.

As an artist I explore how shape and colour can evoke memory of place and time. I live in what was my families beach weekender and childhood memories surround me and influence my work. When I begin a painting I start with no preconceived ideas but instead play in paint with the happy emotions I remember. As the work develops I choose a shape or shapes to emphasise and pare down the colours. It is at this point I choose which of my themes the work will fit into. I use these constraints to guide the finished work. My abstract paintings are done in acrylic, drawing media and collage on wood panels. My 3D abstracts are constructed of painted wood and found objects.
