Where We Come From, Where We Go Painting

Nested in a babbling brook that winds along the ridge, I often find myself in a cradled calmness, a gentle reset. This painting is done from a smaller plein air experience, and is one of many paintings I’ve done from this particular place. Whether it’s a place, visited time and time again, welcoming like an old friend; or just the sense of calm, the grounded place we go to cradle with ourselves; this painting invites the viewer to breathe and be present within this calm, to feel the crisp air, to hear the water rushing underneath, to imagine how the undulating layers of ice might crunch underfoot. The bright sky includes subtle pinks, blues, and ochres, illuminating and silhouetting trees as they suspend their dancing overhead, all the meanwhile bathing the scene in a gentle, loving light.
