About The Artwork

The poses of my figures exhibit both fortitude and vulnerability, and strength is shown through the subject’s robust hands. Nothing is softened. Special attention is given to the folds and fleshiness of the skin which are so often smoothed over. This painting's subject is a woman with her hands in her hair, grasping her face. My work is not typically narrative, so the question I'd like my viewers to be thinking about is not 'what made her do this', but 'have I ever felt like this too?' Like so many of my pieces, my goal here is for the viewer to be able to relate to the woman in the painting.
