Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Pastel and Watercolor Crayon on Canvas.

My current work examines the relentlessness of human gesture as it is integrated into paint's plasticity and constructed forms. "Wild Things" was one of the first works in this series; its shapes and rigid lines carry a primitive energy that results directly from my experimental mindset I had in its making. The title is a literal description of the image and its jagged forms, as well as a nod to childhood memories from Maurice Sendak's book, Where the Wild Things Are. In all of my works, the intuitive sensibility of mark-making is very much tied to a longing for a freer state, one that I often associate with being a kid. I do not aim to mimic children's marks, but do strive toward their imaginative ability—the state of mind which allows for unfiltered expression and belief.
