Williamsburg Bridge Plaza Painting

I lived eight years in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) in the Hassidim Neighborhood. Coming from a French and Central European heritage it seemed to my eyes like old Europe. I rented a loft on Broadway above a famous hat maker, and by the window I could see the bus plazza and the end of the Williamsburg Bridge. I walk everyday in the neighborhood surrounded by yeshiva students, scholars and families.The Satmar (children of a community who survived the holocaust) became my home. I was greatly inspired. I painted this painting recently after a small sketch I found in a notebook dated from 2000. A Hassid couple in the foreground stand out of the crowd on a busy bus Plazza. In the back ground, a thirsty bank disguised as a Greek temple.Two souls attached to each other, waiting for a bus, they seem like the chapter of a novel, I memorized them and recorded the feeling of that particular moment which remained in my memory and that is still alive many years later. An instant that carries multiple directions in time and space, the when and the where.
