About The Artwork
Winter Descends A series of paintings on board and canvas painted plein air in the Sussex landscape. I've been trying to capture the mood and feel of the place and time, feeling the crisp, cold air, hearing the wind and russling of leaves. The earthy warm colours of falling leaves, mud, grass and twigs in the soft winter light. Some of these paintings have been finished in the studio but as all the paintings have started their life outside, you could find the odd pine needle or piece of grass stuck in the paint! This particular painting 'First Frost' is painted on canvas and can be hung as is or be framed. It has been coated with a protective coat of varnish. My artwork reflects the rich surrounding of the beautiful Sussex Downs landscape, its people and Lewes town where I live. With regular visits to my home country Sweden I draw inspiration from the mountains, forests and snowy landscape in the north. I'm a figurative painter and frequently come back to my favourite subjects of people and animals going about their business, or landscapes in different seasons. But I also like to experiment and take my subjects semi-abstract, and play with colour, shape and different mark making. As well as traditional brushes and palette knife, I often use simple tools at hand such as a wooden stick, part of plants or my bare hands.
