About The Artwork
The inspiration for this painting came in the winter when I saw a collection of leaves on the ground with a light coating of frost on the edges of the leaves. Some of the leaves have been painted with gesso then a light wash of watercolour paint and finished with cling film applied to a second wash resulting in a different effect on each leaf. Prior to this I applied masking fluid on the edge and sprinkling over some leaves to give the effect of a light frost. I have used Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour paint on NOT (Cold Pressed) 90Ib watercolour paper and is supplied unframed. I was born in Surrey and always had an interest in art, but took up engineering as a career and worked most of my working life as a design draughtsman. Before retiring I enrolled on a few evening courses in watercolour painting which gave me a sound grounding of the basics and taught me a lot about watercolour painting techniques. Then I decided to strike out on my own to learn by experimenting with different techniques and materials. The majority of my paintings are watercolours which have a tendency to originate from holiday photographs or views near my home in Hampshire. Having exhibited in local open exhibitions and on the internet with some success I decided to widen the field for more to see and hopefully enjoy.
