About The Artwork
Inspired by 1920's and 1930's German expressionism and artist groups like Die Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter, this is a different approach to still life painting. The usual still life elements like flowers, fruit, bottles, vases on a table are presented in a stylized form, like symbols arranged in a simplified and yet pattern-like constructed composition. The purpose was to evaluate if there are different ways to paint a still life in today's image over-flooded world. Acrylic on canvas is the artist's favorite medium, because it allows her to work fast and intuitive with only one rule: the first stroke counts. This is the first image of a series in different colours combined with white, illustration-like lines.
