After a rare summer rainfall here in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the natural land blossomed into such a lush, colorful sight that I wanted to capture it into a painting. I feel this piece is whimsical, fresh, playful, and unexpected and it speaks to the soul of the inner child in all of us.

I worked and reworked this painting so many times, I am surprised I did not paint a hole through the canvas! I love experimenting with new painting techniques, so I began exploring cold wax using a palette knife. I love the silky, lustrous finish that oil adds to a painting, and the base layer of this piece is acrylic.

My name is Linda Lieffers and I am a Canadian abstract expressionism artist inspired by my life in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. My artworks are generally of larger scale and coveted for their atmospheric qualities, blended hues, and varying luminosity. I paint intuitively, allowing one brushstroke to lead to another, and often my initial thoughts give way to something entirely different. Each artwork takes me on a journey to an unknown destination. Being an artist challenges me, it breaks me open, it sometimes hurts, it quiets my mind, it soothes me, and is incredibly therapeutic. There is something fierce in the power of painting; the brushstrokes are my voice, the colors are my mood, and the subject is my own opinion. I will forever be grateful for the ability to reach others through my artwork and the honor to bring something new and beautiful into this world.
