I caught this model in a moment of natural light that accentuated his features in a palette that I needed to capture. Though it has a more desaturated quality compared to my recent works, I enjoyed the exploration in sunlight's ability to both bring forward and diffuse the rose, blond and blue shades in the model's skin.

Carly Bodnar's most recent work addresses the policing of female-identified bodies – what they are allowed to do, desire, and look like. Drawing from diverse visual resources including cell-phone selfies, glossy fashion magazines, and digital color distortion, she creates traditional paintings that offer a glimpse into the experience of womanhood in a visually bombarded and digitally overloaded reality. Bodnar received her BA from Portland State University in Oregon and continues to maintain art connections on both the East and West coast, having shown work in Portland, Los Angeles, and New York City. She lives and works in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley.
