This artwork is not a „picture“. With its visual elements arranged onto a particular surface it only represents itself. Artist Jens Joneleit regards this artwork as an object of itself and thus, it also only expresses itself and not any ideas, concepts that are completely outside or beyond the actua...

Jens Joneleit is a multi-layered artist, a restless wanderer who traverses the fields of visual art, music, and film with sheer unbridled enthusiasm and intensity. Each of his paintings is an eruption of visual elements—visceral snapshots of the visual archeology of the here and now. His artistic practice encompasses a process inserting indeterminable shapes into one seemingly chaotic choreography that intervenes between both the rational and the irrational; and because of that, enabling each artwork to create ist own reality. Joneleit's artistic work is primarily about making marks through intuitive scribbles and lines to set surfaces for the eyes of the viewer. The liveliness and physicality of his visual vocabulary reflect energies engaging the viewer like a magnet, drawing the viewer to not just glance at the artwork, but encouraging each viewer to read an artwork. For Joneleit, painting serves as an important catalyst to identify various new ways of engaging with one another. He believes, artworks, even when finished, need to have the power to resonate openess tot he viewer, so it can absolutely be upon each viewer to „complete“ each artwork by Jens Joneleit on their own. For artworks to have that particular power, Joneleit's approach to work is discontinuity. A discontinuous approach enables Joneleit to develop a routine that actually avoids the trap of routines or allows him to avoid this trap through the constant upheaval of his actions and the constant questioning of goals that have already been achieved. For Joneleit, true art must have the power to invite viewers without prior knowledge to linger in front of the images, captivate them, and come to their own experiences with the images. However, these experiences are not imposed on the viewer by the artist through the images, but rather the images as mediators of a perception that changes over the course of viewing. Joneleit is convinced that such power can only be created through a work of art when the artist's personality is fully absorbed in the work of art instead of merely serving the expression of the artist's own self. For Joneleit, art is only real art when it causes the viewer to resolve a previous understanding.
