There is no moment that lasts forever. No matter how precious and happy the time was, it will inevitably pass. Watching the sky with a loved one, encountering the sea on a trip with family, and the sunlight falling on the face of a beloved one smiling happily. I feel regretful and sorry for those moments that pass by and take pictures to remember them. This is to hold onto the touching moments in my heart, hoping that I can remember them for a little longer. However, when I look back at those photos after time has passed, I inevitably face forgetfulness. Looking at distorted and fragmented memories, I feel so regretful and sad. Hoping to preserve those times that are too precious to be forgotten, I draw them on canvas one by one. My work is a journey of finding the hidden time fragments in the countless pieces that have been transformed by forgetfulness and distortion. The material for my paintings is the photos I took myself. I search through my photo album and bring out the memories that have seeped into me. I tell the story of the deposition of time by drawing those photos, one by one, on top of each other. The layered time naturally breaks apart and creates gaps. The various colors that fill those gaps are my own intervention as the 'me' who is living in the present time. When I recall the past, I want to express the emotions that come to me through the colors, as the person who is living in the present time.

Erica Choi, born in 1993 in Seoul, Korea, is an artist whose work explores themes of memory, emotion, and the passage of time. A graduate of Kookmin University with a degree in Fine Arts, Choi meticulously reconstructs fragmented memories on canvas, transforming them into journeys of rediscovery and emotional resonance. Her signature style involves layering photographs to symbolize the accumulation of time, deconstructing and reconstructing these images with emotive colors to form shapes that represent enduring feelings. Erica has held several solo exhibitions, including "PRESENT" at E-LAND Gallery and "The Way I Remember" at Gallery M in Seoul. Her work has also been featured in numerous art fairs and auctions, such as the Ulsan International Art Fair and BAMA at BEXCO, Busan. Through series like "Mountains: Always and Forever" and "Gift Series," Erica expresses personal connections to stability, love, and familial support. Incorporating traditional materials like mother-of-pearl to convey timeless love and strength, Erica's art seeks to preserve cherished memories while providing viewers with comfort and inspiration.
