Yielding, Limited Edition 1/10 Painting

Abstract digital painting, contemporary, expressionistic. The work comprises three different layers composing a tension-laden but harmonious whole. Its topography is composed of a subtle, multicolored background contrasting with a foreground populated by sinuous bright lines that, at the top and bottom of the work, are framed by broad reddish paint strokes. In the middle part of the work, a massing of nearly geometric lines (off-center and on the right) contributes to the impression of spatial depth. A vertically oriented pink apparition manages to become the focus of attention; it deepens the work’s imaginary space. This focus is strengthened by the opposition brought about by subtle grey textures forming a counterforce to the strong geometric lines in the work’s middle ground. Because of its contrasting color, the apparition fully stands up to its surrounding, simultaneously giving the impression of yielding to the forces defining its environment. Whether its yielding is a surrender or a victory over outside forces, or both, remains for the onlooker to decide. The complexity of the image technically derives from merging spontaneous movements of a dynamically changing brush with intuitively controlled algorithmic processes that determine the character of individual strokes and their color and direction. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.
