Hand embroidery, cotton threads on stretched canvas.

Since I can remember, I liked to draw. While I was using my pencils, I noticed that each stroke of color on paper can be a stitch of thread on fabric but with more impact on the eye giving the work a totally new feel and dimension. That’s how I started drawing with threads.
Through trial and error, with each work I learned from my mistakes, perfecting my technique.
I stretch canvas on rectangular wooden frames to form my blank “piece of paper”. A sketch made with pencil provides the outline of a future work. As I lay the threads, one stitch at the time, the composition takes a life of its own, evolving beyond the original sketch, to morph in a work of intuitive creation. Sometimes, a geometric feel dominates other times I end up with organic, maze like composition. However, color is the driving force of my art.
The result it is a unique piece of art that incorporates traditional embroidery technique into a modern visual creation.
My hope is that someone will notice my works and connect emotionally with them in my “make believe” happy colorful world.

The art work is framed in a contemporary, slim, natural, wood frame and is ready to hang.

I’m a visual artist creating hand embroidered pieces of abstract and geometric designs, with some organic elements mixed in, as well. My works are intuitive creations meant to invoke feelings rather than conveying concepts. Although I began my professional career in architecture, I realized that its technical aspects were limiting my creative freedom, so instead, I began to focus on rendering structures that had more visual appeal than practicality. Still, the abstract feel of architectural compositions stayed with me. Designing “wearable art” collections bearing geometric patterns were the first step in my artistic career. Hand dyed and painted silk was a way to create my own, unique fabrics. Sketching for my collections and pencil-drawing went hand in hand. While textiles and fashion-design were important to me, I felt that doing something on my own, free of trends and deadlines, will better serve my creativity. However, I could not give up my fabrics and threads. Hand-embroidered silk and canvas resemble pencil strokes on paper, and this became an essential element of my artistic expression. As I continue to develop creative ideas, I search for new media and techniques to combine in innovative ways, in my future works. This is a never-ending path of exploration and self-discovery to enrich and advance my art. My works have no hidden messages, just the hope that playful compositions and vivid colors will pleasantly surprise and brighten your mood and surroundings. I live and work in California.
