ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The triptych consists of three paintings, each 35.4" high and 35.4" long. The first and the last painting of this triptych depict parts of decrepit landscape with abandoned and ruined construction sites and living areas from various locations in the city of Zagreb, while every central painting of each triptych depicts a (frozen) still image from a selected film. The painted scenes of the triptychs originated from my photographs of this withered landscape. I took them while, so to say, “infected” by my memory of the scenes from the films. Through my eyes, these frozen film images, in some way found their equivalent in the outside world. Through this particular method these painterly montages came to be. While their contextual subject-matter differs from one to the other, the form and contents remain similar throughout all of the paintings. The selected film from which I captured the still is “Stalker” by Andrei Tarkovsky.
