This piece is hopefully the first in a series on the music scene in Austin, Texas, a mystical place long heralded as "the live music capital of the world'. That might be quite a boast, but the late classical-music conductor, Akira Endo -- formerly of The American Ballet Theatre --once told me that, in terms of performances that you could actually afford and get in to see, there was a lot more to live music in Austin than he could ever take advantage of in New York. Now if you're not "buying it", I suggest you just get down to Austin and check things out for yourself :-) This digitally painted work in giclée on canvas is inspired by the *outstanding* live-concert photography of Ms. Suzanne Cordeiro. In this case, the subject is modeled after guitarist and lead singer Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Look closely in the background and under the stage. You might just find some "un-ticketed fans" lurking there. This original measures 40" x 53". It is shipped unframed and carefully rolled in a padded tube inside an encasing box or outer tube, unless otherwise arranged with the purchaser. Watch here for other more-abstract and "fine painting" styles based upon this same basic scene, as well as hopefully works inspired by other musicians captured by Ms. Cordeiro. NOTE: The phrase "aLive in Austin" is a trademark owned by Russell C. Pruitt. It is used here with permission.

Will Barger is ... a veritable fountain of sage thought, and the occasional pretty picture. Born at an early age in a small town in Texas, Will grew up at the center of everything in the middle of nowhere. Folks seem to agree that he chose his parents exceedingly well. Will has covered quite a bit of ground since then: From the fjords of southern Chile to the arctic plain of Alaska; from the Great Wall outside Beijing to the Eiffel Tower in Paris; and maybe most importantly, the Texas Chili Parlor on Lavaca Street in Austin. Will has greeted Presidents and kings, billionaires and bums -- and sometimes has been hard pressed to tell one from the other where it counts (particularly where politicians are concerned). He's run *to* the rescue, and he's run *from* the Federales. He's been shot at more than once, and never hit (yet). He's made more than his fair share of money, and he's lost more than many make in a lifetime. Will's main goal in life is to be shot dead at the age of 85+ -- by a jealous husband, in his thirties. He's kissed a girl or two along the way, and one that really mattered. Yep, Will's life has been a lot of things. But mostly, it ain't been dull. Some of that hopefully shows up in his work.
