What inspire me to explore are the colors and their interaction.
Colors attract the eyes and emit energy. My goal is to understand and conquer them.
Having done exercises and experiments on the issues raised by J. Itten and J. Albert, I decided to explore one color at a time,
its hues, values and relation with the other colors.
The field of painting is divided by a grid that thickens in places.
Nearby hues compose the painting in which prevails a color.
Before I begin, I have planned the process. The hue of the prevalent color as extends to the edges of the painting,
shifts gradually to other colors. Many decisions are made during execution, there is improvisation. I work all the parts
at once and often change the hues or tones I chose at
first. I don't know where I will end up. The road opens as I walk.
I use acrylic paints, I like that can create endless hues and
values and it doesn't take long to dry, giving me the
opportunity to change the hues when I wish. Hues and
values make the illusion of volume and space. Also, gray
shades make the center color brighter, according to the
quality contrast of Itten.
Finally as handmade object, the strict straight lines of the
grid break their absoluteness, becoming a little bit curves.
It’s result a more vibrant and warm feeling.
I am not interested in creating a strictly rational and normal
field, but a poetic one, which allows feelings in human
being for her/himself, those around her/him and her/his
environment. Something I see and admire in the work of
P.Klee and M.Rothko.

Maria Chatzaki is an artist based in Greece. She is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age" at the Ionian University. She holds a degree with honors from the School of Fine Arts at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and also has a degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Macedonia. Concepts such as senses, emotion, sensitivity, aesthetics, and empathy are not ones she "fears." These are words that share the same root in the Greek language. She also questions whether they truly conflict with reasoning and logic, believing that they are equally important to explore. Maria draws inspiration from artists like Paul Klee, Mark Rothko, Sonia Delaunay-Terk, and Agnes Martin. She also has a deep love for poetry, theater, music, other forms of art, and philosophy. Her focus is on the 'here and now' of the artwork, seeking to capture a poetic element in visual art, a kind of "aura," as described by Walter Benjamin. 1) Benjamin W. (2008) The work of art in the age of technological reproducibility, 2) Rothko M. (2006) Writings on art (1934-1969), Yale Univetsity Wedsite: fb: .php?id=100063801862239 insta:
