Oil on canvas. Mainly blue colors ,medium texture depth. Hermes of Praxiteles sculpture is depicted using colors arguing between marble and flesh. Actual life-size depiction of Hermes.I am really proud of this work. Even if one could say that is not so modern. "Hermes and the infant Dionysus" marble sculpture of Praxiteles is one of the most (if not the most) difficult subjects to paint accurately especially using oil colors. It took me almost 9 months just to feel that i respectfully depicted the sculpture although i had the synthesis in my mind from the beginning . The price is really lower than it deserves for perceivable reasons . From the exhibition titled :Price and Prejudice" dedicated to the "debris" of the Greek economy crisis.. "Symbolic figures carrying the pride,the history, the culture of all western civilization for centuries., interact with the every day reality and with the currently crisis-phobic Greeks. Glorious past, guilty present,uncertain future, they are all being sacrificed on the altar of self-preservation against the international prejudice,but also on the altar of our vanity.Glorified symbols of the past,converse with the uninspired present and the leftovers of an idea, with an honest inconsistency.
