Painting: Acrylic, Gold Leaf, Wood, Resin, Mirror on Wood, Glass, Other.
This painting has woodcut, raised letters that are meticulously covered in gold leaf. The letters are on a mirror covered with hot pink tinted epoxy resin, and this mirror is mounted on a wood panel. The entire surface of the painting is covered in epoxy resin. The 1.5" sides of the wood panel are matching gold leaf - no framing required!
This painting incorporates both gold leaf and mirrors. Gold leaf is extremely fragile, messy, and sensitive. It cannot be touched with bare hands; one mistake ruins everything. And like words, gold leaf commands attention. The mirrors and epoxy resin used in this series make the paintings heavier, literally increasing their physical weight. Conceptually, this reinforces the idea of words as having great weight of meaning. The epoxy resin has an additional reflective quality, thus reiterating the idea that our words are a reflection of who we are. The words and phrases in this series have more than one interpretation and are chosen with intention.
