The phoenix, a mysterious imaginary animal, is a crucial species of animal in minhwa, and it gives a holistic energy into the hearts of our ancestors. They wished for a magical aura in their homes through the power of phoenix. My painting contains the desire for harmony and happiness.

Eunju Park lives and works in South Korea. My studio practice is focused on traditional Korean painting and it's called Minhwa. Over the years, I have created different animal paintings through Minhwa. The term Minhwa means painting for the people. So, I create and paint for the people specifically for my family. My ultimate goal of creating such images is to incorporate the meaning of happiness which is the basic concept of Minhwa. Especially in my own work, I focus on family happiness and health, and it is the inner thoughts of my desires and wishes. I believe that family happiness is a significant part of emotion in human relationships and I try to dissolve them into my own work through the symbols of Minhwa images such as animals, flowers, and nature elements.
