Powerful, large-scale piece of art - coming straight from my South African studio. It’s a mixed media artwork on a custom made professional stretcher. The work is painted on canvas with additional paper collage applications. It’s a streetart inspired work of art that is truly unique and a colourful stunner on every wall.

What moves me? I am a seeker of objects, a collector, a player. Unfortunately messy, always searching, always
in the midst of it - always where it’s at. Curious, sometimes brave, mostly careful and always
willing to look beneath the surface. I was washed up into the middle of Johannesburg, into the
epicentre of South African daily madness, still surprised but deeply thankful for what I can see,
smell, read, soak up every day. I am interested in people: mama holding her kid’s hand,;these
loud groups of seemingly overenthusiastic youths; the tiny, sad looking girl by the side of the
road. The security guard, the fruit seller, the photographer I met recently. The old neighbour
who now lives in an old people’s home. I collect their stories. The newspaper seller at the
junction, I talk with him every day. What is it that moves you? What makes you happy? What is
home for you, for me - so far on the other side of the world. Is there such a thing as one, true
happiness? What does loss mean, and - so close to life - what if death suddenly becomes
real?
I collect. Every day I collect stories, memories, I collect images - in my head, with my camera.
In many boxes, with many seemingly chaotic piles I sort, connect, join new stories, faces with
the impressions life has so far gifted me. I walk through this, my, life with open eyes - knowing
that no-one else could see it like this, love it like this, experience it like I do.

Manuela Karin Knaut, born in 1970, is an independent artist currently living in Braunschweig, Germany. She acquired a Master of Arts in Fine Art (installation art) at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has been a member of many prestigious and international art alliances such as the Bund Bildender Künstler (German Association of Visual Artists), the Association Internationale des Arts Plastiques, The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) as well as the International Womens Association. Since 1990 Knaut‘ s work has been shown internationally in numerous exhibitions and art fairs in countries all over the globe such as South Africa, Ghana, Switzerland, Denmark, UK, Austria, USA, Israel and Kirghistan. Her works are part of notable private and public collections across all five continents. Knaut´s works can best be described as constant discovery and seeking of the unknown. Whether that is on the streets, in exchange with other creators or online- her inspiration stems from everyday life and people. Knaut plays with contrasts, restlessness and the wild, chaos and peace, abstraction and figurativeness. She incorporates many different styles, media and techniques such as silk screen print, acrylics, graffiti, oils and ink. Her works are made on wood, canvas, stone, concrete, cardboard and paper. Her works have a very high recognition level as they circle around similar motives and styles but never stay the same either, since she enjoys venturing on new terrain, such as her latest NFT project.
