About The Artwork

I am not a friend of the written word. Ever since I can remember, I’ve created drawings to bridge the distance between my ideas and expression. The organic marks and lines flow and develop as I watch them assume shape and meanings on the paper or canvas. They are the visual communication of the things I don’t; I can’t put into words. I transcribe and reveal the subtle enigmatic beauty of nature through intuitive calligraphy, and hope my message in a bottle will be received by someone else. In this series, Seams of the Fog, the collage base layer is composed of waste items such as seeds, junk mail, plastic and foil packaging, and cosmetics. They’re buried by layers of beeswax and pigment and then etched away to reveal the hidden intent underneath. There is a tension between the hazy uncertainty of the surface and the intentional, well-defined seams.

I transcribe and reveal the beauty of nature through intuitive calligraphy. Materials curated from refuse drive the approach of each project. In “Seams of the Fog”, the collage under painting is composed of seeds, junk mail, plastic, foil, and cosmetics. I bury it under layers of wax and pigment. What is hidden becomes less important than what is revealed, like fog. There is a tension between the hazy uncertainty of the surface and the intentional, well-defined seams. Besides stitching and embroidery of plastic yarns into my acrylic paintings, I also weave plast “yarns” as my canvas/ painting. It’s another experience Beneath this joy and wonder of beauty is a layer of darker anxiety I have for the environment.
