"Jörg Coblenz is not interested in copying reality or painting in a traditional way. His work is a combination and interaction between materiality and color. This is the reason why he started to embroider. The thread introduces a more textural feeling to the work and makes the reduced drawing more physical, especially when combined with different textile motifs. He likes to play with the relationship between thread and paint, and explore how they interact with each other. He draws with the thread on an often destroyed canvas or paper to sketch an imaginary reality combined with splatters and drips of the pigments as a permanent change of the painting process. The thread is not only the motif: it's an overlapping message and interaction between the destroyed background and the colored surface. Images are taken from photographs, magazines and advertisements; Jörg Coblenz makes sketches of them and uses them as models for his work, transforming them into a new environment."
